my first self portrait.

being with you
those people.
the things those people give you.
the kisses you give to those people who give you things,
are a token of certainty that you love them,
on that very moment,
when all your gratitude wells up to one
uncontrollable urge to kiss them.
(kissing means thank you.)
sometimes, taking a portrait of someone is kind of like giving them a kiss. i am (secretly) so overwhelmed with gratitude that this person has handed me their solitary expression to store in a memory vault for as long as forever may be, that i might as well be kissing them on both cheeks.
this self-portrait is in a way, a way of surrendering myself to the vulnerability of being a subject and becoming a part of the process i typically experience from one perspective. the camera mobile asserts the weightlessness of feeling secure in my practice. the strings that lift the cameras up represent knowing this feeling can break at any time. my solution: keep kissing.

Boys in the Woods

First Friday Art Hop often presents a challenge in that your piece of art should compliment a certain theme. For the 2011 year, Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs have (and will continue to) inspire the PoetHouse artists and direct the pieces that are created for the gallery. January & February explored the first level of the Maslow's pyramid, the needs of which being physiological - air, food, shelter, sex, sleep, drink, etc. The PoetHouse decided that all these needs were 'Primal' in nature.
I created golden husks, horns, snouts, beaks and antlers
for my highly primal, dapperly clad gentlemen
friends and went for a drive up north...

nolan's underpants

this project started as a favor for a friend and ended as one of my favorite assignments to date: to take photographs for a calendar showcasing each different color of american apparel underpants that he owned. here is a selection from the calendar, to be later given to Nolan's boss for a secret santa gift.
i hear it was well received.
"tell the internet slash anonymous public that if they
like it then they should have put a ring on it"
